RTL bemüht sich nicht gerade den oft ungerechtfertigt schlechten Ruf des MMA`s zu verbessern, zum Teil wird eher versucht zu dramatisieren. Besonders deutlich beim Gewichtmachen und als der Kommentator "MMA als härteste Sportart der Welt, fast ohne Regeln darstellt". Auch der Hinweis, dass Jana Lorenz bei ihrer Kampferfahrung keine korrekten Angaben gemacht hat, ist nicht gerade förderlich.

Generell ist der Bericht aber ziemlich interessant und bringt das Frauen MMA in die Öffentlichkeit. Noch ein weiter Weg, aber immerhin ein Anfang.

Ab und zu schaut sich Fechter Sebastian Bachmann das Video vom Gewinn der Bronzemedaille mit der Florett-Mannschaft bei den Olympischen Sommerspielen an. Er sieht dann, wie er im kleinen Finale gegen die USA von der Planche stürzt und sich dabei das Knie verdreht, er sieht dann, wie Ersatzmann André Weßels ran muss und Deutschland mit ihm souverän 45:27 gewinnt.

"Ich spüre trotz meiner damaligen Verletzung immer noch Freude, manchmal überkommt mich eine Gänsehaut, ich bin dann fast den Tränen nah", sagt der 26-Jährige: "Das Gefühl hält ein paar Stunden an. Dann verschwindet es wieder. Es verschwindet wieder, weil die Olympia-Medaille von außen einfach nicht so gewürdigt wird. Sie ist Vergangenheit, interessiert keinen mehr."

44-mal Edelmetall holten deutsche Athleten bei den Olympischen Spielen in London. Einige der Medaillengewinner, Leichtathlet Robert Harting etwa oder Fechterin Britta Heidemann, konnten ihren Marktwert dadurch nochmals steigern. Beide waren allerdings schon vor London Stars.

Tate stated during at the post UFC on Fox 8 scrum Saturday night that she is working on getting 2012 Olympic Gold medalist at 71 kg/156.5 pound Lucie Décosse to help her train some judo to counter champion Ronda Rousey’s.

Décosse started judo at age 6, and won the European championships at 21. She has won three world championships and was a silver meadlist at the 2008 Olympic Games. Decosse is currently ranked #1 in her Division.

Between filming The Ultimate Fighter, preparing for a December showdown with No. 1 contender Miesha Tate and readying herself for an upcoming role in The Expendables 3, "Rowdy" has, as she puts it, "a really, really full plate."

Rousey spoke with Brett Okamoto of ESPN, musing about her future. Predictably, the question of Rousey vs. Cyborg Justino (formerly Santos) took center stage.

Cyborg has put together an impressive 2013, posting a 2-0 record, which includes an Invicta FC featherweight title victory over Marloes Coenen. Prior to the run, Justino had been serving a suspension for a positive PED test in her final Strikeforce bout.

The resurgence of Cyborg has rekindled interest in a Rousey vs. Justino superfight, but as Rousey told ESPN, the ball is firmly in Justino's court.

"I have a lot of things going on," Rousey explained. "She's fighting random chicks. I mean, Marloes—it took her longer and more energy to beat Marloes than it took Miesha [Tate] (in July 2011)."

There is always someone out there that is bigger and stronger than you. When we were white belts we would get easily beaten by smaller blue and purple belts.What were they doing that we were not? The answer is that they had skill and strategy and they knew exactly what you were going to do next. They knew how they were going to beat you. These simple tips may come in helpful next time you face a big bully on the mats:

1. Be quicker and more active. 
This is a obvious first point. Bigger guys should normally be slower. Try to use your speed and explosivness to your advantage and take initiatives by attacking and being more aggressive.

2. Tire your opponent 
Don’t let him rest at any point. Big guys carry around more weights and generally will roll by exploding in short spurts, where as smaller guys will be in constant movement. If you attack without stopping, you will deprive them of this rest and they will usually start gassing out, you will then be able to take advantage of the situation.

3. Take the back
This is a technical advice that I remember receiving from my coach. He said that the best way to beat the big guys was to take their backs as usually they can’t muscle out of that position. Holding a mount or side control against a stronger guy is riskier as they can always explode. the back is the safest. Usually the bow and arrow choke is the highest percentage submission from the back. So work on your back transitions and submissions from there.

The PPV was successful, according to Knapp, expressing that the PPV companies were happy with the product. She thought the build-up was still strong, even though many felt some main stream MMA news hindered the buzz.

In terms of Livia Von Plettenberg missing weight, Knapp was a bit embarrassed about what happened and the company will be more diligent in terms of keeping track of fighters’ weights. She expressed that fighters need to know their bodies and make sure they are cutting healthy.

Before you get carried away and pick the first camp you find that says “run by a champion”, you have to remember that the majority of Muay Thai camps in Thailand boast a champion owner or trainer. This isn’t a lie, it is just that historically belts have changed hands faster than Singha beer bottles, and on the islands of Samui and Phuket in particular, it seems everyone has been “Southern” or “Northern” champion at one time or another. Also consider that just because a camp has a champion in the wings, doesn’t mean the camp is a great place to train, stay, or generally enjoy the best Muay Thai experience.

CAGE WARRIORS Fighting Championship has begun the process of rejuvenating its women’s divisions by securing the signatures of 18 female fighters across four different weight classes.
CWFC is pleased to reveal details of its plans to establish itself as the epicentre of women’s MMA in Europe, with agreements also already in place with several other female fighters to sign exclusive five-fight deals with the promotion.

More signings will be announced shortly, but those who have already put pen to paper range from experienced stars like Spanish-based veteran Karla Benitez (10-4) to unbeaten English prospect Laura Howarth (3-0).

Cage Warriors has consistently supported women’s MMA in recent years, helping some of the sport’s top fighters to showcase their talents, including Rosi Sexton, Sheila Gaff, Joanne Calderwood, Katja Kankaanpaa and Aisling Daly.

The promotion will now take that to the next level, with women’s MMA bouts to become a regular feature on CWFC cards as the next wave of female stars are provided with the global platform they deserve.

“This is a hugely significant development for CWFC but it’s by no means new territory for the promotion,” said Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan. “With the exception of the UFC, Cage Warriors is now not only the busiest promotion in MMA, but it’s also the place to be for female fighters outside the USA.

“The women we’ve signed are now with a promotion that’s broadcast live on TV into 150 million homes around the globe, as well as being streamed live worldwide. We’ll be bringing a lot of exposure their way and helping them to make names for themselves, as we’ve done in the past with the likes of Conor McGregor and many others.

The clock is ticking. With just four days to go until the UK’s largest and first independent Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Exhibition takes place from The Event City in Trafford, Manchester, the organisation have released the Cage Zone timetable for fighters signings and open workouts.

 

It’s a star studded event. Just last weekend the UK MMA Expo announced that they would be adding UFC and UK middleweight Michael “The Count” Bisping and UFC and UK lightweight Ross “The Real Deal” Pearson to their ever growing and talented MMA Expo roster that takes place this Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July in Manchester.

Now with everything in place, the UK MMA Expo have released the Cage Zone timetable for the fighters signings and open workouts. Speaking to The Fight Lounge, UK MMA Expo organiser Darren Sherlock said:

T.P. Grant continues his look at what the different grappling arts mean in MMA, this time looking at the martial art of Ronda Rousey, Judo.

     

This series is meant to help MMA fans understand what the different grappling backgrounds actually mean, and was inspired by a question posed on Reddit. The series started with a look at American Folkstyle (NCAA) wrestling, one of biggest sources of talent, and now we move on to a largely untapped source of potential fighters - Judo. And untapped in both women's and men's MMA as unlike many other grappling arts, women have a strong presence in Judo.

 

Brief History: Judo came from the Japanese art of Jujutsu, which was used by Samurai and combined grappling and striking techniques. In extreme close combat Samurai would take down armored enemies, when opportunity presented, with an array of trips and throws. Once the dominant position was attained, the victorious Samurai would quickly dispatch his victim with anything from his sword to the fallen man's own knife. Despite translating as 'art of softness' Jujitsu was a desperate art of survival that used anything at its disposal including, but not limited to, blades, chains, biting, eye gouging or just pure brute strength.

Tamikka Brents, die kurzfristig als Ersatz für Charmaine Tweet einsprang, da diese aufgrund von Visaproblemen ausfiel (GnP berichtete), verpasste ebenfalls ihr Gewicht. 1,8 Kilogramm musste die Amerikanerin in zwei Stunden abkochen, was ihr nicht gelang. Die Begegnung wurde daraufhin zum Catchweight-Duell im Leichtgewicht (70kg) umgeändert.

Jessica Penne, die frühere Championess im Atomgewicht, musste ebenfalls noch einmal auf die Waage, nachdem sie im ersten Versucht, trotz Entkleidung, knapp 50 Gramm zu viel wog. Im zweiten Versuch gab es jedoch die erwünschte Punktlandung.

Im Hauptkampf des Abends wird es zum Titelkampf im Federgewicht zwischen Marloes Coenen und Cris "Cyborg" Justino kommen.

The Invicta Fighting Championships return to action this weekend in Kansas City, Missouri for the promotion’s first pay-per-view. Invicta FC 6: Coenen vs. Cyborg II is an anticipated, and historic, card for the all-women’s MMA promotion and the promotion’s CEO, Shannon Knapp, could not be more excited herself.

MMAFrenzy caught up with the former UFC and Strikeforce executive to discuss a variety of topics including Invicta FC 6, transitioning to PPV, UFC 162, and more.

Saturday will mark Invicta’s first pay-per-view, what has that transition been like? Is there anything different about moving to PPV and why make the move now?

It came down to the fact that we wanted as many options for our fans to view the card as possible. It also is a chance for us to gain some new fans that are not necessarily the die-hard MMA fans but the fans that typically look for pay-per-views during the weekend.

As for the transition itself, it hasn’t been that different. There are a few added things; we’re doing the same thing we did on [Invicta FC 5], just on cable. So in that respect it hasn’t been troublesome in anyway.

MINUTES AFTER Ronda Rousey bounded into the Octagon this past February for the first women's fight in UFC history, she found herself grappling with two formidable opponents. In a last-minute mishap, handlers had failed to order Rousey a formidable fight-night bra and instead handed her one of the light-as-air chest coverings she usually wears for weigh-in. Now that teensy swath of fabric was the only thing standing between Rousey's goods and 13,000 onlookers at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. -- and it was inching closer and closer to the mat.
"When someone's on your back trying to rip your head off, things tend to slip around a bit," Rousey says. After one failed attempt at a wardrobe adjustment, she switched her focus to freeing herself from the choke hold "so she wouldn't snap my neck in half." As soon as she flipped Carmouche to the floor, Rousey went straight for her own neckline. Bad move: "I got kicked straight in the chest right as I was trying to adjust my bra."

Es war der einzige Frauenkampf des Abends bei GMC 4. Jana Lorenz gegen Ania Fucz. FMMA-Supporter waren im Vorfeld begeistert, dass diese Begegnung auf großer Bühne in einem Käfig mit UFC-Maßen stattfinden konnte. Durch einen Ausfall der ursprünglich geplanten Kontrahentin für Fucz, Jannie Schmits, war der Kampf zeitweise in Gefahr, bis Lorenz mutigerweise kurzfristig einsprang.

Die Begegnung war zwar nicht das von manchen erhoffte Highlight, jedoch von Kämpferherz und Taktik geprägt - eine sprichwörtliche Materialschlacht.

Am Ende konnte die mehrfache Muay-Thai-Weltmeisterin Ania Fucz einen Punktsieg in ihrem MMA-Debüt einfahren und sich von ihren zahlreich angereisten Fans feiern lassen, die jedoch auch Lorenz mit stehenden Ovationen für die beherzte Leistung belohnten.

Aus Gerüchten wurden gestern Nacht Fakten. Die UFC bestätigte die noch ausstehenden PPV-Termine von jetzt bis zum Jahresende. Damit sind UFC 165 bis UFC 168 und ihre Titelkämpfe offiziell.

 

Die UFC schließt das Jahr 2013 am 28. Dezember mit UFC 168 ab. In Las Vegas, Nevada stehen sich die Trainerinnen von „The Ultimate Fighter 18“ gegenüber, Ronda Rousey und Miesha Tate. Auf dem Spiel steht nicht nur die Ehre, sondern auch Rouseys Bantamgewichtstitel. 

Sensation: Anderson Silva geht K.o.  

 

Chris Weidman hat das Undenkbare getan! Im Hauptkampf von UFC 162 besiegte er den seit sieben Jahren ungeschlagenen Anderson Silva und ist somit der neue UFC-Champion im Mittelgewicht.

1. Can you please introduce yourself to the BJJ Community of Eastern Europe? 

Ghalia Baggily (Ogden-Smith), 38 years old, BJJ Brown Belt, Jordanian, work in Events management.
I train at home with my training partner and with our Drill to Win Galvao book.

2. Please tell us about your Jiu-Jitsu story.

In 2004 when BJJ was just starting in Jordan i joined the guys’ class along with other three girls. As soon as I was awarded the blue belt I had to move to Dubai for work.
In Dubai, I trained under Carlos Santos, Olavo Abreu and Suyan Queiroz until I was asked by the dojo owner not to attend classes anymore. “Females are not allowed in my dojo” he told me. This upset me very much and made me feel like I was doing something wrong. But my coaches were adamant about finding a new location which they did a couple of months after. Throughout my training in Dubai I learnt a lot about the BJJ and the BJJ lifestyle and made amazing friends who encouraged me and made me feel proud.
